DistroKid AI music · practical checklist

Yes—DistroKid allows AI-made music. The decision is whether your release clears four rules and whether its AI credit is accurate.

Before uploading, confirm that you own the rights, are not impersonating anyone, are not submitting mass-generated spam, and are not infringing another person’s rights. Then mark every relevant AI contribution in the upload flow. A live upload is still subject to each streaming service’s rules.

The fast answer

Use DistroKid for an AI-assisted or fully AI-made track only when you can document the release rights and accurately identify the AI contribution. DistroKid’s published rule does not promise that every store will accept every release: stores can reject or remove music that misses their own content guidelines.

Upload gate

Pass these four checks before you open the upload form

1. Rights

Keep proof that you have the legal right to distribute the audio, lyrics, samples, and any AI-tool output in the release.

2. Identity

Do not imitate another person’s voice, likeness, or identity without permission.

3. Release purpose

Do not use a catalogue of generic tracks to flood services or game streaming algorithms.

4. Other people’s work

Do not submit a release that infringes another party’s rights.

AI credits

Choose the credit from what the listener hears—not from the tool’s marketing label

When any portion of a track was generated by AI, DistroKid asks you to select at least one applicable category. Select every category that truthfully applies.

LyricsAI wrote the words.
MusicAI composed the melody.
All of the audioEverything the listener hears is AI-generated. This also triggers a choice between a human artist and an AI persona.
Part of the audioSome audible elements are AI-generated and some are human-made.

Do not guess at a category because a track merely used an AI-enabled mastering or editing feature. Make the record above first, then choose the category that describes the actual generated contribution.

Correction path

If you chose the wrong AI credit, correct it after upload

  1. Open the album page in DistroKid.
  2. Select Credits next to the affected song.
  3. Update the AI-credit selection to match your release record.
  4. Save the revised record with the date of the correction.

DistroKid also provides a dedicated credits page. Updating a credit is not a substitute for fixing missing rights, imitation, spam, or infringement problems.

One-minute pre-submit check

Pause the upload if any answer is “no” or “I don’t know”
